Blackhole at a Glance

Blackhole by Eventide is a reverb for spaces that could never exist in a real building. At large sizes it gives soft attacks and long, harmonic tails that suit guitars, strings and pads. At small sizes it can add a shimmer to vocals or turn a plain drum loop into something stranger.

It has a long history. The Blackhole algorithm started life in Eventide’s DSP4000 rack unit, stayed a favourite in the H8000FW, then moved into the Space pedal before becoming a plugin. Engineers called it their “secret weapon” for years.

It isn’t only for drones and space effects. Turn it down and it makes subtle washes that lift one instrument out of a mix. The Gravity control flips the reverb’s decay so it swells instead of fading, and the Kill Switch mutes the input so you only hear the reverb, which makes for striking effects when you automate it.
