What’s in the Bundle

The 128 plugins lean toward effects and mixing tools, with a good set of sample-based instruments. Here are the parts most readers of this site will use.

Mixing and mastering. All eight Mastering The Mix plugins are in, including FASTER MASTER (an assistant that sets up a master for you), LIMITER, BASSROOM, MIXROOM and EXPOSE 2, which checks a finished track for loudness and other problems. Audified’s MixChecker Pro and MixChecker Ultra+ let you hear your mix as it would sound on phones, laptops and earbuds. There are channel strips (United Plugins UniChannel, Excite Audio Lifeline Console, MeldaProduction MDrumStrip), Venomode’s Maximal 3 limiter and DeeQ EQ, and compressors such as Baby Audio Parallel Aggressor and W. A. Production Puncher 2.

Character and effects. Baby Audio’s Super VHS and Comeback Kid, Denise Audio’s Bad Tape 2 and Perfect Plate XL, Audified’s U78 Saturator and MultiDrive PRO, and United Plugins’ MorphVerb and Expanse 3D. If you’re new to tape and drive effects, our saturation guide explains how to use them.

Instruments. Excite Audio’s whole Bloom range is included (drums, bass, strings, mallets, choirs and synth textures), with the Evolve series and Bloom KSHMR and Bloom Mura Masa. You also get KV331’s SynthMaster 3 and SynthMaster One, AAS Lounge Lizard Session (electric piano), Strum Session (guitar) and Ultra Analog Session, UJAM’s DANDY and DEEP, and MeldaProduction’s MDrummer and MSoundFactory.

Writing tools. Audiomodern’s Chordjam makes chord ideas, 510k’s SEQUND and POLYLLOP are step sequencers, and PEACH is an arpeggiator. For dedicated chord plugins, see our chord and melody plugin guide.

Vocals. Only two vocal processors: United Plugins Voxessor and W. A. Production Vocal Splitter. Excite Audio’s Bloom Vocal Edit and Bloom Vocal Choir are sample instruments, not tools for your own recordings.

What Isn’t Included

The bundle is built from Plugin Boutique’s own Excite Audio range and smaller independent brands. Excite Audio has 38 plugins in it and Plugin Boutique’s own label 11, so 49 of the 128 come from Plugin Boutique itself.

You won’t find the big names many producers already own or want: no FabFilter, Arturia, XLN Audio, Spectrasonics, Xfer Serum or Scaler. There are no sampled acoustic pianos, so if a piano is what you need, our budget piano guide is a better place to start. Mastering The Mix’s LEVELS meter is also left out, though EXPOSE 2 covers loudness checks.

There’s also no pitch correction in the bundle, so you’d still need something separate for tuning vocals.

What Happens If You Cancel

Plugin Boutique says nothing you make depends on staying subscribed: “Projects and presets open exactly as saved, even if you pause or cancel.” It doesn’t explain how this works in detail, so test it during the trial with a project you care about.

The monthly plugins are a different matter. Each one you claim is yours, so after a year on the yearly plan you could have up to 12 plugins to keep. Plugin Boutique doesn’t say in advance which plugins they’ll be, and you have to claim each one from your account.

Is It Worth It?

It depends on how many of the 128 you’d use.

The case for it is simple math. $200 a year is about the price of two or three plugins bought outright. FASTER MASTER, MixChecker Pro and SynthMaster 3 together list at $278. If you’d use a handful of these tools, you’re ahead, and the monthly plugin adds something you keep.

The case against: many of these plugins go on sale often. On launch day, 64 of the 128 were on sale at Plugin Boutique, including 25 Excite Audio plugins at $39 and ten Lifeline effects at $8. Black Friday sales are close, too. If you only want two or three specific plugins, buying them on sale costs less over a couple of years and you own them outright.

It suits you if:

  • You’re building a first plugin collection and want to try lots of tools before spending on any one of them.
  • You make beats or electronic music and like sample-based instruments such as Bloom.
  • You want mixing and mastering helpers (Mastering The Mix, MixChecker) without buying them one by one.

Think twice if:

  • You already own a full set of mixing plugins.
  • You mainly need pianos, orchestral libraries or one particular synth.
  • You’d rather own everything outright and never pay a subscription.

Getting the Most From the Free Trial

Seven days goes quickly with 128 plugins. Pick one track you’re working on and try the bundle on that, starting with the mastering and mix-checking tools, since those show their worth in one session. Note which plugins you actually reach for. Plugin Boutique emails you two days before the trial ends, which gives you time to cancel if the list is short.

If you’d rather buy individual plugins, our Black Friday deals page tracks the current Plugin Boutique sales.

When you’re ready to try it, the 7-day free trial starts on the Plugin Boutique Discovery Bundle page.
